OpenId SAML bridge - Paypal login into Salesforce

Intel Expressway Cloud Access 360 (ECA360) provides an OpenID - SAML bridge (or converter) that allows users to use OpenID providers such as Paypal to login into SAML enabled endpoints such as Salesforce and Google Apps.

Watch the screencast in this blog entry posted by Paypal's Ashish Jain.

Benefits:
  • If you are an Identity Provider (IdP), you can use ECA360 to authenticate users with different authentication mechanisms - username/password, Paypal OpenID, other OpenID providers, and even Facebook. On top of this authentication, you can layer second-factor authentication provided by Intel's Nordic Edge OTP soft-tokens to achieve higher level of security assurance.
  • If you are a Service Provider (SP also known as relying party), you can deploy ECA360 to accept federated authentication using SAML from partner IdPs as well as accept authentication from Paypal OpenID and other OpenID providers
  • If you are an OpenID provider, you can use ECA360 to send SAML tokens (assertions) to application endpoints that only accepts SAML
OpenID is also one of the standards being supported by FICAM providing implementation guidance to federal agencies which are planning to open up their applications for government to consumer (G2C) access.
See how National Institute of Health (NIH) is using OpenID to provide "Open Identity for Open Government".

A recent webinar I did with Judith Spencer delves into the above topic and other FICAM logical access use cases where ECA360 can be used.
